Since it is impossible to marry one's sister, there are some possibilities:
(1) Robert & Sophia LAPHAM had two living sons named Thomas, AND Mary LAPHAM (wife of Thomas) was NOT their daughter
(2) There was another Thomas LAPHAM born in Kilmington in about 1792 but no baptism record survives
(3) He was not baptised as a LAPHAM (cf. Charles BIRD who became Charles LAPHAM after his mothers' marriage to Richard LAPHAM)

Giles & Decima
Robert & Tabitha (most likely parents - there was a gap in children 1789-1794)

NB. The son of Sophia LAPHAM (d/o Robert & Sophia) was described as his nephew. This is presumably because Sophia was the sister of his wife Mary. If in fact Thomas was the s/o Robert & Sophia, then his wife is mis-identified, as he couldn't marry his sister.

It's also possible that Mary LAPHAM was a widow at her 1835 marriage in Frome.

He was assigned as the s/o Robert & Tabitha on the basis of most likelihood. Proof is currently lacking.
