(Witness) Marriage
1 September 1823
He witnessed the Marriage of John ARNOLD and Mary Ann CHARLTON on 1 September 1823 at St Michael's, Mere, Wiltshire, England.3
He married Mary (MATTHEWS). A William MATTHEWS married an Alley HERRIDGE in Gillingham in 1746. The name of the mother is only shown in Mary's baptism. It's possible that "Mary" (for the mother) was a mis-transcription for "Alley", or that Alley was the mother of Ann (1751) but not Mary (1760) (i.e. William married twice).
Mary MATTOCK and John PITMAN obtained a marriage license on 18 March 1686; Groom of Mere, 22 yrs, surgeon. Bride of Mere, 22 yrs, spr. Bondsman: Richard PITMAN, tallowchandler, of Mere.1
